Crypto miners will ALWAY be a problem, because of how much stock they waste on pointless and unstable currency, and how much energy they also waste on that pointless currency Like, people think usual gamers with their.... AMD 12 core cpu overclocked, high speed ram/SSD, RGB lighting, and 3090 waste electricity.... yeah, how about a giant ass bay filled with 3090s and 3080s :V That’s a power waster if I ever saw one. I have several older PC's and laptops that had slowed to a crawl by being choked with old Windoze products... I changed the oldest (over a decade) over to Linux (Pop OS and Mandrake) and it is back to life and running as strong as more recent systems and are now my workhorses for certain applications... Others I just flushed and revamped... yes, I now have several systems running. but I am also able to easily split my workloads among systems so that my newest system can be dedicated to the most intensive programs/games without issue... I also can run resource heavier programs on other systems and just move data around on the network instead of taxing the heck out of one system by trying to run everything.. Prime example is running ISsofts videos and tutorials on a separate machine from my graphics / CAD machines... Doubling the "electricity load is still measured an a couple dollars (at best) per month as opposed to several thousand dollars for a single system to carry the heavier load.

You're missing the upstream supply chain and you're bitching about the wrong type of miners...well, actually the people/companies who do the "exploration" bit. LME Copper price has basically doubled over the last 12 months. It's "stabilized" around $9000USD/MT, right now (for how long?). Copper is required for all technology; I can't think of any industry that doesn't need copper in some way or another. Why has it spiked? Well, CoVID primarily--keeping miners out of the mines. A strong secondary reason--sourcing new copper deposits and opening new mines is down. That is something worth bitching about.

Interesting video. This is why a lot of hosting companies ended up as big sloppy conglomerates. It's cheaper to buy another company and yoink their datacenters than it is to plan and build out a new one. Or it used to be. I can't even begin to imagine the cost involved with building or expanding a fab facility with all that expensive gear.

I doubt the fun's over. Just imagine what the demand forecasts look like after this. A situation that everyone mostly agrees is temporary (perhaps a new floor for the number of office drones freed from the cubicle) spikes demand. Do you even want to meet that demand? Worst case, you're just left with a ton of excess capacity and waiting for the next pandemic to make it make sense, hopefully while that new capacity is still technologically relevant. I mean, yeah. There's a bunch of other economic ripples from this that look like they might stick around a while, but this? I don't know, but I'm doubtful.

Are you going to do a new 1500 dollar comp build. Sigh, I was finally looking forward to buying a new pc since I gave mine away long ago. Hmm... Samsung... I really hate that company. I really hate the Genghis Khan Finances of asia, Fuck those people just steal and make crap... My reference is in history of korea electronic and rag trade of the asiatics under the unified japan model of the prefecture that aggressive took over global share while utilizing its Han dynasty babylon shops/ er temples to disrupt other localized or regional nations, whilst also doing and betraying Germany to some regard, so yeah, business as usual, using other groups to eliminate their problems da consolidate over the market, same as Ram design, or the micro-processor out of California sold to sony, etc... just like apple using 40 year old de classified tech to the market place... beginign to see the capital abuse market more then the national or paitalism actual market... which forces dependence, which often how tributary system of imperial ask worked, they force nations to compitualte after they udenrmine their self autonomy, China, Textiles. Technically ram is textile also... yep.. who cares about law, certainly undermining life of destroy it doesn't seem to be a thing in the asiatics, that entire peninsula when asia in classic times was a tiny little country, acted and consolidated power over vastregiosn with the same type of warfare model of undermining, They did the same thing in the BC state once in power, they only hire their collective unless you interbreed with them, its not that there isn't money and they also collapse sectors in the public office to sell it private and then act in the use of money to gain ratio, so basically pilling for fiat money, rather than gold, so people are not dying having gold removed like with the roosevelt nonsense, but it certainly seems a civislatnion is being quite bombarded by the lawless brigade and its strange sentiment that someone in a governing system states they can act and o no wrong in their actions , Icould go into the governor general utilizing the tax dollars to give money to foreigners for free housing and education, while then using the migrant waves and india to give these people authoritiative position over the canadian realm, all this came form the bolsheviks and the oppression of women victim narrative for 120 years. Weakening the positions of males in the western society, because these groups hate men that call out bullshit and state no... and will kill another human that crosses their abusive line. How they get around this is micro manage aggression into the people why we see shooters and men in society rampaging because the governing system is paid to disrupt and bully individuals its not really community, and its a systematic type of warfare.. The idiots invovled do more damage for simple money to buy foreign power goods they serve rather than actual building or serving the nation at hand. So yeah .. even so much as asia, with their bold statements of we come to take what Christ had given to you because we deserve it, which is the same sentiment of the jim Krom tribe in the melanisians place from the ww2 when americans (conglomerate of natives) stopped and boxed in japans aggression. Certainly a strange world... of eradication and excessive nonsense. I and heavy on national extremism against all asians since they all and any other human that carry ideals form their other area,s since they operate to steal and serve not the land or value but simply the imperial master... their means of dissipation and money nonsense is really strange, which impeded all the active men and works post ww2 and on ward, simply by control gin the finances over countries and areas whilst raping and pillaging al the natural resources to build their glass homes.. since they didn't provide assets but undermined it and they utilize the psycho breeds like the Foggers offspring that are simply murderers for hire.. A strange world.. I wouldn't say england was an ice place either with its inventions and also links to the same financial heresy like with bit coin. Currency of universe is energy and electricity, so basically the unit of work, Our work is judged by man power, and men and women use these as a ratio to the work needed nd means of forward money is a relation simply of that work to trade for food, but there is a donor system of honesty behind it. IE the person that is gathering the food, is participating in the building of the nation and its movement of people an important job, thus the aggricutlural council, these outlets across canada, were stripped cleaned and replicated in asia. So yeah.. I have never seen a more fucked up thing on this planet then how asia operates. It strips anderaases nations by taking good ideas nd then destroying them where they found them.. is that like some serious fucked up hatred? anyways... I just wanted to know if you were going to do another cheap mans build.. hmm

They don't hold crypto, they exchange it for real assets. Crypto is not designed to hold value. I don't see the problem. It is profitable for manufacturers to sell video cards to miners. But they also have a reputation. They can contact companies that assemble computers and *give them quotas for the purchase of video cards, with the condition that they sell them together with the computer.* For example, 25% of video cards are sold with computers and 75% separately for upgrading old computers. Or 50/50, if it works out even 90% / 10% . The manufacturer will still sell whatever it can produce, but will improve its reputation.

Ok. So as to the GPU shortage issues. Say that you are right and the demand for them is much higher than the makers thought. Why, almost a year later, is it still impossible to find ANY gpus that are under $1000? I am using a GTX 1050ti. I am only using it because there is nothing else available and the ones that ARE available are waaaaaay out of my price range. And at this point, anything would be an improvement. I have already had to replace the fans on this one 3 times already. But even the fans are getting hard to find. There may be gpus out there but the prices are too damned high for normal people to afford anymore. The way I heard it, the makers like Envidea are phasing out the 10 series in favor of the new RTX line up. That they quit making anything that is in the 10s so that people would be forced to buy the high priced RTX cards. At this point, I don't know what to believe and to tell you the truth, I have a feeling that at the end of the day, it all comes down to the makers just wanting more and more money from us.

I get it... but still it does not makes sense why I cant even buy GTX 10XX or RTX 20XX and neither AMD GPUs... I was checking GPU price of GTX 1060 which I had 3 years ago before I got RTX 2070 (I needed to sell my PC becuase I am relocating to different country and system was too heavy to carry around) so some semiconductor shortage has nothing to do with people selling GTX 1060 for 700 USD and RTX 2070 for 1300 USD... USED... I cant even get my hands on GTX 9XX series since people ask like 400 USD for GTX 980... which is old used card... CPUs? well intels locked CPUs like i5 9400 are being sold for 400+ USD aswell... but I know how to trick the system... since I need a PC... and I have a laptop with decent i5 which is also locked but its decent I can buy crappy dell optilex with i7 or something similar with only onboard 8th or 9th gen intel CPU which has decent onboard GPU and survive with that for some time... as long as it can run Overwatch and few other games, I should be fine... no NVENC encoder for streaming, no streaming at all, no animation creations no ultimate Asseto Corsa with steering wheel setup... But some FPS games at 30 FPS or replaying older Assassins creed games at 30 FPS is still good enough... these times are like a time machine for me since I can play only old games so I have already finished a bunch of games I havent played for years but I remember them games to be long and awesome but after playing new games, it feels weird but atleast I still enjoy the story... I just hope miners stop buying gaming GPUs and stick with mining things like ANT Miner or whatnot and stop bothering us gamers and content creators...

I guess there's a demand issue when scalpers bot buy rooms full of cards to sell them at ridiculous prices on ebay.

that's because the crypto mining vs. cost tom mine is really not worth it. I mean, it's still slightly profitable after factoring in the huge cost of electricity and equipment, but come on. I'm only considering the more well known crypto like bitcoin, Eth, litecoin, etc.. maybe there are underlying alt coin markets you can mine for specifically that Im not considering? (I doubt it though)

The used market will swing back before new stuff gets close to MSRP. It might be 6 months to a year but a lot of people buying are gonna realize they dont need that GPU and would rather have money.

I work for a supplier to the auto industry that is also effected by this as well. Our product doesn't use the semi conductor chips but our products are not needed as much because like you said the assembly line must halt.

Linus has to be pretty dumb if he think miners and scalpers arent the main issue here.

I picked the worst year to finally decide to buy parts for my build. Got my cpu, motherboard, and ram on the way and I'll probably be getting everything else minus GPU over the next couple months. Technically I'll be able to boot the computer with the onboard graphics but man will it be depressing to have like $2k into the build and no GPU in sight :(

Now is the time for not overclocking cpu and gpu, when the replacement is out of stock in the shop! And to do dustcleaning once in a while, with air on a can. Not the vacuumcleaner!!! (static electricity is bad for pc's)

It's also true that those(professionals) working remotely are less likely to catch Covid19 compared to those, who have to (work)- factory worker, delivery person, meat factory etc.
